If the sea has gotten the better of you and you find yourself out of your kayak it is very common that the paddler drops his or her paddle. In windy and/or choppy condition the paddle WILL drift away faster than you think and without a reserv paddle the paddle leash is a cheap and handy insurance.
Furthermore it is a handy and comfortable accessory if you want your hands free quickly. With the paddle leash you can simply drop the paddle knowing it will not drift away.
The leash is fastened around the middle of the shaft with velcro and on the other end is hooked only your pfd or deck line of the kayak with a carbine.
